Since filing for insolvency in September 2018, Dr. Köster had been responsible for the business operations of Berner Ladenbau GmbH & Co. KG with the support of the Hamburg consulting company Felbier Mall GmbH. In addition, the insolvency administrator had set up a structured investor process in order to find a sustainable solution for the Osnabrück-based company, which specializes in the design, consulting and construction of stores and shops in the core sectors bakery, butchery, gastronomy and retail.

The search for investors was accompanied by a team led by Burkhard Jung and Werner Warthorst, both managing directors of the management consultancy Restrukturierungspartner. After initial negotiations with potential investors from Germany and abroad, the final negotiations with a group of investors from Osnabrück were concluded on the day the insolvency proceedings were opened. The parties agreed not to disclose the purchase price. Next to the previous owner René Riesner, shareholders of the new company are the Brinkmeyer and Friggemann family business (MB GmbH) as well as Ursula Stecker, who will also be in charge of management in the future.

Of the 156 employees, 90 will be taken over, while the insolvency administrator has set up a transfer company for the remaining employees in order to support them in their transition to new employment relationships.
