The management consultancy Restrukturierungspartner exclusively supported Spiekermann GmbH Consulting Engineers in its search for investors.

„Within a very short time, we succeeded in finding a strong strategic investor with the Dorsch Group, which intends a long-term continuation of Spiekermann and will further develop the brand. A result, which was only possible due to the very constructive and trustful cooperation of all parties involved in the process“, emphasizes Merlin Smeenk, who supervised the investor process as project manager.

With about 2,000 employees, the Dorsch Group is one of the largest independent planning and consulting groups in Germany and is internationally represented with several subsidiaries and a large number of project offices in more than 40 countries. The range of services covers the specialist areas of airports, transport & infrastructure, water & environment, structural and urban engineering, oil & gas, development cooperation as well as asset management. Annually, the Dorsch Group implements about 1,000 projects.

Spiekermann GmbH Consulting Engineers, which generated sales of around 16 million euros in 2019 and employed 180 people, applied for self-administration proceedings in mid-July 2020. The responsible district court in Düsseldorf appointed Georg F. Kreplin (Kreplin & Partner Rechtsanwälte) as provisional administrator. Holger Rhode and Christian Schulze of GÖRG Partnerschaft von Rechtsanwälten mbB were appointed by the company as general representatives and supported the management in the context of the self-administration.

In order to put the company back in a financially stable position for the future, the self-administration had initiated a structured investor process, which was accompanied by Restrukturierungspartner. The team around the Managing Directors Burkhard Jung and Werner Warthorst and Manager Merlin Smeenk had approached a large number of national and international investors in the past weeks and held intensive talks with various interested parties.

In the end, the Dorsch Group was able to prevail in the investor process. The sales agreement was signed at the end of October and the closing is expected to be completed within a few days. The notification to the Federal Cartel Office of Germany and the clearance decision have already been made. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
